About This Release
ENSMBLE continued its editorial trajectory with Time and Hope, a new project from DJ Raff — an expert Chilean beatmaker with deep influence in his country's Hip Hop scene and a lasting mark from his long stay in Spain.
After launching Latino & Proud in 2011 via Nacional Records, Raff turned toward a more personal and experimental approach. The EP portrays his transition between life in Barcelona and his return to Santiago de Chile.
As Raff himself revealed, the EP was produced with "some old stuff I found at Encants (a Barcelona market): a Yamaha 8-bit toy sampler, small Casiotones… and Protools software." The four tracks explore his most experimental creative side, adapted to club-focused grids and techniques.
"Nocturnal" opens the journey with an abstract, maximalist nature — establishing a contemplative, crepuscular atmosphere through a varied catalogue of melodic and rhythmic resources. "Time and Hope" caresses ethereal manipulation techniques, amplifying vocal samples and processes into a dynamic, frenetic percussion equation with Footwork flashes. "Insane" is a key moment: colorful arpeggios and sensual, sophisticated vocal processes, lush and concise, driven by a hybrid, stout drum line. "T.I.M.E." closes the release by amplifying the meditative climate, posing a multicellular architecture grounded in production techniques mainly settled in the UK.
Time and Hope served as an exceptional preamble for Raff's next LP for Nacional Records, scheduled for 2013.
