A flat vector illustration of a dark, monochromatic landscape with dense low-hanging clouds, jagged silhouettes of bare trees, and a faint glimmer of light breaking through the gloom. The mood is brooding, atmospheric, and heavy.

About

Darkness is a calling for Andrés Satué and Alberto Fernández. The A Coruña duo are drawn irresistibly to the unknown, and their music as Esquelas traces that passion in monochromatic melodies and an intense, dry pulse that advances without opposition, sinking deeper into the listener's mind.

Inciso is their second EP and their first release in physical format — a significant step forward in production. The pair took on the entire production process themselves, describing it as a major learning experience. Now split between A Coruña and Barcelona, they began exploring low frequencies and the more physical dimension of sound: the rhythm is emphatic, growing in violence and aggression, while sculpted frequencies subdue the listener in a climate of desolation.

Esquelas approach composition almost as a ritual, altering and modifying sounds until they reach the desired point. The presence of machines — their smell, their weight — is felt in the corpulence of every kick drum, the result of continuous exploration of heavy technology.

Somewhere between Oren Ambarchi, the suffocating sonic esotericism of Raime, and the force of The Haxan Cloak, Inciso stages a degraded, apocalyptic atmosphere with elegance and density — stirring the depths with care, without jolts, penetrating firmly into the listener's core.
